 In the summer of 2017 I rode a 35 day, 1,875 mile bike ride from Oslo to Cape Nord, Norway with Bike Dreams. About half way through we crossed into the Arctic Circle. We were told the weather could be warm and sunny or cold and miserable. They were right about cold and miserable. One rainy day was 104 miles long and it averaged about 42 degrees. That was miserable! We did have our fair share of cold and rain during the ride, however I was inspired on by Norway’s natural beauty — striking mountains, steep-sided fjords, glacier views, rocky coastal shorelines, majestic waterfalls, climbing over incredible bridges or plunging down into tunnels under the sea, and living in the land of the midnight sun for 6 weeks. The brightly colored wild flowers brought me daily cheer too. If we didn’t have a bridge or tunnel to cross the sea, we took a ferry. Many of the 21 ferry rides were fascinating - huge jaws of ferries would swallow up buses, semis and rows of cars. The ferry rides were a nice respite for weary legs and cold bodies. One really crazy thing I’ll remember is that everyones’ Garmin went haywire at exactly the same time - confused if it was daytime or nighttime - making navigation very confusing attempting to read a Garmin in night mode during the day light!
